Powerful Communication

New modes of Presentation

Webinars, video conferences and Skype calls have slowly started to replace the traditional forms of presentation. While it is more practical and economical, especially with teams working across locations as a presenter your role gets tougher. You are addressing an invisible audience who could be doing anything, and you have no direct control over them.

Use a tight structure, avoid deviations and offer signposts (the second point is …) along the way to engage the audience as they are easily distracted. Besides without your direct presence they have the freedom to do other tasks.
Reduce the number of word slides. Keep a large font and just have two words, three maybe on a slide. Wordy slides are surely sleep inducing!

Striking visuals or startling statistics are better as they immediately engage the audience. Avoid using the same visual for extended stretches of time.

Ensure you are smartly turned out and make sure that the camera angle is flattering to you. Your choice of colors for your clothes can add to the visual experience. Check your background and sets. Bare walls or cluttered tables are both not appropriate. Keep the set simple but professional at the same time. Since  you are not  physically  present  your levels  of  energy and  enthusiasm  must be  higher. Interact with your audience through question and answers.

It is interesting to have a picture of yours at the beginning as the audience can relate the voice to the image easily. Rehearse for this is a new medium and you need to know how best the software can help you in your presentation.
