Powerful Communication

Using Creative Aids

Presentations are not just about power point slides and flip charts. You can use a variety of creative aids that will not only enhance your presentation but also make it a very memorable one for the audience. Props can be used to make a specific point or to introduce a new segment. One could use video clips and films but then again they are common. Sometimes you could use a glove puppet who could act as a narrator or perhaps a large cartoon cut out to be the presentation mascot. Interesting  props  like a   tree cutout  with  post its  stuck  for  participants  to put  down their  queries  or feedback also make  for interesting add-ons. Look around you, and there could be things around that can be used as props. A large dice made of cardboard, a bell that acts like a doubt detector, or anything that will spice up the presentation. I  once  remember using a  glove puppet to be  my  co-facilitator  to  spice up a boring  grammar presentation that  I had  to make!

Audience

You may have a baritone voice and know your content inside out but that will not make a difference unless you know who the audience is and what they would want. You need to have a fair idea of the audience profile. You have to engage with your audience and build a relationship. Find out as much information as you can about your audience - their roles, what do they want to know? Think about how you can structure your message around their needs.

Summary:

  • Creativity has no bounds - a glove puppet, a dice, or a doubt bell - anything to add creative appeal and involve your audience.
  • Knowing your audience well is half the job well done.
